Ozone Therapy

How Long does Ozone Therapy Last

November 22, 2022 by Dr. Daniel Hoover

Most people understand that ozone is a gas in our atmosphere that protects us from the Sun’s dangerous ultraviolet rays, which  can cause sunburns and skin cancer. Ozone also has many properties that can be used therapeutically as well. Ozone therapy can be used along with other IV therapies such as the Myer’s Cocktail or as a standalone treatment. Ozone therapy is used to treat many symptoms caused by:

  • Arthritis
  • Joint pain
  • Respiratory problems
  • Allergies
  • Skin conditions
  • Chronic fatigue

Join me as we explore the benefits, what it can treat and as well as the duration of ozone therapy.

What is Ozone Therapy

Ozone therapy is the process in which ozone is administered intravenously for its therapeutic properties. Ozone on its own has incredible anti-inflammatory properties, and it can also act as a disinfectant. Ozone therapy can improve blood circulation which is important when trying to maintain a healthy body.

Poor blood circulation can cause swelling and inflammation which can lead to symptoms like pain, skin discoloration, spider veins and eczema among others.

Benefits of Ozone Therapy

Due to ozone’s anti-inflammatory properties, it can be used to reduce swelling caused by injury, disease or infection. By reducing inflammation, there is less pressure on the injured tissues and joints which provides some pain relief.

It is also helpful with people suffering from arthritis, since inflammation can cause loss of mobility and stiffness in the joints as well. For patients suffering from osteoarthritis, ozone therapy can be used to manage pain and return range of motion. Though there is no known way to reverse the damage caused by osteoarthritis, ozone therapy can provide older adults with valuable time before the need for more invasive procedures such as surgery.

Ozone is well known to help fight off pathogens that can infect the body. Pathogens are typically microorganisms that can cause infection and disease, these include viruses, fungi, and bacteria. Ozone’s disinfectant properties can kill bacteria and help prevent viral replication, which may allow you to recover from viral infections sooner. These infections become more common during the holidays as more people travel and visit loved ones.

Ozone oxidizes pathogens, this can clean your arteries from infections and improve blood circulation giving a weak immune system a boost. Ozone can produce antioxidants which are necessary to keep balance with free radicals. An unbalance of free radicals can cause oxidative stress which can cause one to feel lethargic, fatigued or sensitive to noises. Periodic ozone therapy may be able to improve overall metabolism by balancing antioxidants and free radicals in your body.

How Long Before you See Results with Ozone Therapy

Every patient is different, age, physical health and body composition can play a big role in how each individual responds to ozone therapy. For the majority of patients they’ll see improvements after about 3 weeks. After the treatment program is completed, if you notice major improvements, speak with your primary care provider to continue on a regular treatment to maintain the benefits acquired through ozone therapy.

How Long do the Effects of Ozone Therapy Last

Like most medicine which you may be required to take for days, months or years, you can’t expect the problem to be solved after one therapy session. After a treatment program is completed, the results may be permanent. Repetition is recommended for continued benefits from ozone therapy so even after completing your program you may want to continue with regular treatments.

What Does Ozone Therapy Do?

October 27, 2022 by Dr. Daniel Hoover

Ozone is a naturally occurring gas in the atmosphere, discovered in the 1840s. Most people know of ozone for it being the gas protecting us from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays. Recently, ozone has been found to help with a variety of diseases and health issues.

Join me as we look into what ozone therapy is, and what it can do for you.

What is Ozone Therapy?

Ozone therapy is the administration of ozone intravenously for its therapeutic properties. It can be used as a stand alone therapy, or as a complementary therapy with other treatments such as Myer’s cocktail IV therapy. Ozone has amazing anti-inflammatory properties and acts as a disinfectant. It has been shown to help manage symptoms from a number of conditions including:

  • Arthritis
  • Joint Pain
  • Respiratory Problems
  • Allergies
  • Skin Conditions
  • Chronic Fatigue

Ozone therapy improves blood circulation which is invaluable when maintaining a healthy body. Poor blood circulations can lead to an accumulation of fluids in the body which causes swelling. When this occurs it’s difficult for the body to properly circulate blood, this leads to a number of symptoms including:

  • Spider Veins
  • Skin Discoloration
  • Edema
  • Eczema
  • Ulcers
  • Pain in Arms and Legs
  • Numbness and Tingling in Arms and Legs

Pain Reliever

Ozone’s anti-inflammatory properties allow it to reduce swelling in people suffering from injuries or diseases. By reducing inflammation less pressure is placed in the joints and ligaments providing some pain relief from injuries and forms of arthritis.

Osteoarthritis is one of the most common forms of arthritis affecting over 30 million adults in the country. This degenerative joint disease often affects older adults and commonly occurs in the hands, hips, and knees. It causes pain, stiffness, swelling and loss of range of motion.

Ozone’s anti-inflammatory properties can be used to reduce pain and increase range of motion. Although there is currently no known way to reverse the damage caused by osteoarthritis. Ozone therapy can be used to manage the symptoms and improve the quality of life of these patients. In some patients ozone therapy can give valuable time in delaying or avoiding major invasive treatments such as surgery.

Fights Pathogens

Pathogens are microorganisms that can infect the body and cause disease, these include viruses, fungi, and bacteria. Every year people suffer from bacterial or viral infections. Especially during the holidays when many people travel and visit friends and family. Most common viral infections like the cold and flu are not curable and need to run their course.

Ozone therapy’s antiviral properties may be used to reduce viral replication in the body to reduce the period of time you feel ill. Bacterial infections have been shown to resolve within a few days after ozone therapy. Modern bacterial infections have begun to become progressively more resistant to antibiotics, it’s possible that ozone therapy may be how we fight bacterial infection in the future.

Boosts Immune System

As we age our natural immunities begin to decline. Our immune system is our body’s main line of defense from infections. Ozone therapy can be used to give weak immune systems a boost.   Ozone therapy can improve your blood circulation and may clear your arteries of potential infections by oxidizing the pathogens.

Ozone can help produce antioxidants which are needed to keep balance with free radicals. Too many free radicals can cause oxidative stress which can cause you to feel sluggish, fatigued, or sensitive to noises. With regular ozone therapy you may be able  to improve overall metabolism by returning balance between free radicals and antioxidants in your body.

How Ozone Therapy Can Improve Local Circulation

December 21, 2021 by Dr. Daniel Hoover

Ozone Injection

Ozone Therapy? Ozone as part of a treatment program? You might be thinking what does Ozone, a gas most learned about in elementary science, have to do with a treatment program. We invite you to explore how ozone is used to treat different conditions.

Ozone is a gas most commonly associated with the atmosphere. It is the layer of gas that protects us from some of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays. Which in excess can cause skin cancer. But did you know that we can also use the power of ozone at ground level to help with healing?

In this article I’m going to share with you how ozone therapy can improve local blood circulation, why it is important and how this benefits your body in the healing process.

Importance of Blood Circulation

The importance of blood circulation can not be understated as it is absolutely necessary to maintain a healthy body. When blood circulation is poor it can cause an accumulation of fluids in certain areas of the body, often occurring in the arms, legs, ankles and feet. This swelling can occur when the heart can not properly supply blood through the body. Other symptoms of poor blood circulation are:

  • Varicose Veins (Spider Veins)
  • Skin Discoloration
  • Swelling of the Legs or Feet (Edema)
  • Split skin (weeping Eczema)
  • Ulcers
  • Aches and Pain in Limbs
  • Numbness and Tingling in Limbs

Poor blood circulation can also cause even minor injuries to take longer to heal. Meaning even a small bruise can become an ulcer and potentially become infected.

Although certain factors such as age, gender and even the weather can impact blood circulation. It is important for your health to have rich, oxygenated blood flowing properly throughout your body.

Varicose Veins

Also known as spider veins, this incredibly common condition which affects over 3 million Americans per year is the result of improper blood flow. This caused discoloration and swelling in the veins. The veins may appear larger than usually, twisted or appear to be in a cluster. They tend to also appear to have a prominent purple or blue color giving them their common name. Usually asymptomatic, some patients have reported to experience swelling, itching and pain in their legs.

Swelling (Edema)

It is common for the legs to experience swelling as a cause of poor blood flow. When blood flow is poor, swelling may be caused by blood pooling around the feet or ankles and forces fluids into surrounding blood vessels. Poor circulation caused by heart problems may cause abdominal swelling. If this is the case it is advised that you contact your primary physician to provide further diagnosis.

Numbness and Tingling

Another common symptom of poor circulation is feeling of numbness or “tingling” in your limbs. Due to the lack of blood flowing though your arms or legs you may feel them become cold or numb. And at some point you may also begin to have the feeling of pins and needles. This is commonly associated with blocked or compressed blood vessels which can interfere with blood circulation to the great.

Ozone Therapy

Ozone therapy is the administration of ozone (O3) for therapeutic treatment either as a standalone treatment or a complementary therapy to other treatments such as Myer’s cocktail IV therapy or Platelet Rich Plasma (prp) injections. Ozone improves blood flow in affected tissue and transports more oxygen to inflamed areas. Delivering more energy and improving the previously affected tissue. By improving blood flow it helps the liver to detoxify, this supports the liver in removing solids from the blood which promotes better circulation.

Feel free to ask the specialist at SOHMA Integrative Medicine in Long Beach CA if you are interested in complementary treatment options.

Ozone Therapy, Damaged Cells, & Oxidative Stress

December 14, 2021 by Dr. Daniel Hoover

When you hear ozone, the first thing that may come to mind is the atmospheric layer that acts as a shield to protect us from the sun’s ultraviolet light but there’s more to it than that. It also has therapeutic uses with the ability to repair damaged cells and reduce oxidative stress. Damaged cells make it difficult for the body to naturally detoxify itself. With limited ability to detoxify, your cells begin to suffer from oxidative stress.

There are many other examples of the benefits of Ozone therapy, these include the following:

  • Pain relief
  • Improved immune system
  • Detoxification
  • Disinfectant
  • Treating arthritis
  • Fighting viral diseases

In this article we are going to focus mainly on the ability for ozone to repair damaged cells, which can aid in healing and recovery, as well as its ability to reduce oxidative stress. In fact, oxidative stress is the main cause for your body to recover slowly. At SOHMA Integrative Medicine of Long Beach California it is our mission to help people be relieved of pain and return to balance without the use of drugs or surgery.

Ozone Therapy

Ozone therapy is the therapeutic use of ozone in order to help the body recover and heal. Ozone therapy aids in the removal of antioxidants and other toxins from the body, preventing tissue damage and promoting cell repair. The injections result in higher energy levels and boost the immune system.

Ozone therapy can be used as a solo therapy or as a complementary therapy with a Myer’s Cocktail IV therapy, Platelet Rich Plasma injections or something more relaxing like massage therapy to help reduce stress and eliminate some free radicals. Ask the specialists at SOHMA Integrative Medicine if you are interested in these complementary therapies as well.

Damaged Cells

The cells in your body are constantly being damaged due to a number of factors, some of which are less avoidable like aging, genetics or the weather. Other times cells can be damaged due to chemicals, trauma, viral and bacterial infections, or impaired nutrient supply such as a shortage of glucose or oxygen.

Some cell damage can be reverted once the stress is removed or cells are properly supplied with required nutrients. Full function may return in some cases, though some level of injury may remain. Ozone therapy has been shown to have positive results in treating degenerative diseases like osteoarthritis and cardiovascular diseases. Ozone may also be able to reactivate dormant stem cells into producing new cells, which would lead to better cellular repair adiding shorter recovery times.

Oxidative stress

If you have felt fatigues, noticed wrinkles and gray hairs, have been having abnormal sensitivity to noise or headaches, you may be dealing with oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is an irregularity that occurs when there is an imbalance between the production and accumulation of toxins in the cells and tissues of the body, and the ability for your body to detoxify itself. This imbalance is known to produce an excess of free radicals which interact with molecules within your cells resulting in damage causing stress.

To an extent, free radicals can be beneficial to stimulate cell repair, but become a problem when free radicals overwhelm the healing process. This occurs because the oxygen-containing molecules have an uneven number of electrons which allows them to react with other molecules. With regular ozone therapy it is possible to improve overall metabolism which helps the body remove the unnecessary free radicals and return the necessary balance within your body.

5 Benefits of Ozone Therapy

December 1, 2021 by Dr. Daniel Hoover

How Ozone Can Help You

Ozone, I’m sure you have heard of this gas consisting of 3 oxygen atoms. It is most commonly found in earth’s atmosphere creating a layer that protects us from the sun’s ultraviolet radiation.

But did you know ozone can be used therapeutically? At SOHMA Integrative Medicine in Long Beach California we offer ozone injection therapy which can be used for a variety of ailments, or a boost of energy. Ozone has anti-inflammatory properties and also acts as a disinfectant, preventing viral replication and killing bacteria. In this article we will look at five other amazing benefits ozone therapy has.

Fortified Immune System

The immune system is the main line of defense to protect your body from viral and bacterial infections. With age comes the decline of your natural immunities. Ozone has amazing anti-inflammatory properties which helps the body be ready to naturally fight off pathogens.

In a short 30 minute session, the immune system becomes stimulated to aid healing. This Improves your blood circulation and cleans your arteries from potential viral and bacterial infection by oxidizing the toxins.

Inflammation can lead to an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants in your body. This is called oxidative stress and is associated with pain and irritation. Inflammatory and pain related ailments and can be greatly improved with ozone therapy.

Detoxification

Toxins build up in the body of everyone, even when taking necessary precautions. Toxins, when built up in the body, can have many adverse effects including the body’s ability to heal itself. Exercise and an improved diet helps to slow down the accumulation of toxins, though a build up can be unavoidable. Ozone therapy detoxification can help with:

  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Respiratory Problems
  • Joint Pain
  • Allergies
  • Skin Conditions
  • Digestive Issues
  • Insomnia

Pain Relief from Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis affecting over 30 million adults in the United States. Most frequently occurring in the hands, hips and knees. This degenerative joint disease caused pain, stiffness, swelling and reduced range of motion in the affected areas.

Although there is no cure for the damage caused by osteoarthritis, the symptoms can be managed with ozone therapy. Due to ozone’s anti-inflammatory properties it can help reduce swelling, reduce tension in the joints which provides pain relief and increased flexibility.

Helping to improve the quality of life of people suffering from arthritis as well as giving people the ability to delay or avoid more invasive treatment such as surgery is our end goal.

Heart Disease

Tightness in the chest can be experienced by people with heart conditions and the feeling of lightheadedness occurs when there is low oxygen saturation in your blood. Ozone therapy can increase the oxygen saturation in red blood cells, which allows more oxygen to be delivered to the heart and other tissue.

In cases of blood clots, the clumping of red blood cells makes it difficult for blood to flow through the smaller capillaries. This decreases blood flow and oxygen to vital organs, ozone therapy can fit through the smallest of blood vessels and helps prevent the clotting.

Antibacterial, Antiviral, Antifungal Properties

Viral infections like the flu and cold affect people every year, especially during the holiday season. Once infected with a virus there is no pill to eliminate it. Though you can take medicine to fight the symptoms, the virus itself is left to run its course.

As ozone has antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties it can be used to reduce the number of viral replications in your body. This results in a shorter period of feeling under the weather.

Ozone therapy has also been used to resolve bacterial infection within a couple of days after treatment.
