7 Reasons to See a Chiropractor

September 9, 2022 by Dr. Daniel Hoover

Chiropractors help with various ailments that range from small injuries to helping with mobility.

It’s common to see Chiropractors online adjusting and manipulating patients and hearing satisfying cracks. Many times patients will feel an instant wave of relief other times it may take a few chiropractic adjustments to see improvements in your condition.

Chiropractors are healthcare professionals who specialize in manipulating the spine to help reduce pain, treat pain, and improve mobility and functionality of patients. On your first visit you may be asked about your general health, diet, daily activity and what conditions you have been dealing with.

When should you see a chiropractor though? Today we’re going to give you 7 reasons you may want to consider seeing a Chiropractor.

Back and Neck Pain

The most common reason to visit a Chiropractor is when you’re dealing with neck and back pain. Though neck and back pain is common for nearly everyone, when you wake up several mornings dealing with that pain it may be time to visit a chiropractic office. Oftentimes after having a car accident you may be recommended to see a Chiropractor to avoid long-term damage.

Difficulty Sleeping

Sleep is one of the most important aspects of recovery. If you are unable to sleep, your body will have a difficult time healing naturally. However, even if you feel like you’ve slept over 7 hours but have difficulty waking up or feel tired after you wake up you may have poor sleep quality. While you’re asleep your body is busy recovering from the day, and if your spine is misaligned it can cause your body to stress over the pain. This can also cause irritation and stiffness in the neck as well as pain in your arms and legs. A chiropractor can realign the vertebrae in your spine to reduce pain, increase sleep quality allowing you to rest better.

Headache Pain

Headaches can be caused by a variety of reasons, some can have them after poor sleep, staring at computer monitors for hours, allergies, subluxations or simply just because you ate too much ice cream. The severity of headaches can range from a mild brain freeze to a crippling migraine. Although you can take an ibuprofen or aspirin to help with the pain you may be ignoring underlying problems if it happens often. For some people headaches occur because of pressure built up in their neck and spine, a chiropractor can adjust the neck to release tension and relax the neck muscles reducing the frequency and strength of headaches.

Alternative Medicine

Many people mask their pain symptoms with pain pills which rarely deal with the root cause of their physical pain. It’s not uncommon for Americans to take over the counter pain relievers in the morning to help them deal with chronic pain.

What if instead of just dealing with the symptoms you do something about the reason for the pain?

Back pain can be caused by compressed or slipped discs, spinal adjustment or spinal decompression can help with long-term pain relief. Chiropractic adjustments can also help improve your posture which can benefit the rest of your body as well.

Mental Health

When making chiropractic care a regular part of your health routine many patients express how great they feel. Chiropractors relieve pain in your back and neck allowing you to get out of pain and into balance, and back to play. Feeling less pain means you no longer have to fight your body to perform activities and focus on the moment and fun and enjoy yourself again.

Improved Physical Health

While you may not be looking to be a professional athlete, chiropractic adjustments can help you improve your physical health. A Chiropractor understands the human body and how it’s supposed to move and will be able to test your range of motion and determine if you are dealing with any issues. If you enjoy an active lifestyle a chiropractor can help you to continue to enjoy it with less pain.

Overall Health

Chiropractors specialize in the spine, which connects to the rest of your body. Even if you are not suffering from debilitating pains, a chiropractic adjustment may make you feel holistically better. Patients who have regular chiropractic adjustments report improvements in their daily lives. From feelings of well-being and happiness to increased strength and a stronger immune system.

What can an Herbalist Help With?

September 5, 2022 by Dr. Daniel Hoover

Herbalists prepare specific recipes tailored to you.

To first understand what an Herbalist can help with, first we need to understand what an Herbalist is.

Simply put, an Herbalist uses herbs to help treat different kinds of conditions, ailments and their symptoms. Herbalists attempt to find the root cause of illness. Practitioners will often choose herbs based on the symptoms or ailments a patient describes during the consultation. They will also perform a clinical exam, inspecting certain areas of the body and create a personalized prescription.

An Herbalist’s knowledge cannot be understated. Join me as we go through what an Herbalist can help with as well as how an herbalist can help.

Herbs for Treatment?

Yes!

Herbal medicine is one of the oldest forms of medicine still used today. In recent years the popularity of herbal medicine has increased due to it being more affordable and easier to obtain compared to conventional medicine. In many cases, herbal medicine may have fewer and milder side effects. Some of the most common beneficial herbs can be purchased at your local supermarket such as chamomile, turmeric, peppermint, lavender and ginseng. Though we highly recommend you have a conversation with a professional Herbalist before attempting to treat your symptoms on your own.

Why Consult an Herbalist?

In today’s age of computers and smartphones it’s easy to have the misconception that you have all the answers at the palm of your hand. Although this can be true in some cases, we believe you shouldn’t take that risk when it comes to your health. An Herbalist specializes in treating patients with natural herbs. They understand how herbs help with your condition. And more importantly they can tell you what herbs not to use.

Like all medicines, herbal medicine may have some side effects. It’s an Herbalist’s job to talk with you and understand what medicine you may already be taking. Whether it is other herbal medicine or pharmaceuticals prescribed from your doctor. An herbalist can help you understand that some herbs can have heightened side effects when combined with a prescription treatment from your doctor.

Some examples include; if you are on some contraceptives you should avoid supplements that contain St. John’s wort. St. John’s wort is commonly used as a mild antidepressant, but when used with contraceptives can cause irregular bleeding or an unplanned pregnancy. Ginkgo biloba is a natural anti-inflammatory commonly used to treat arthritis and migraines. Using it with other blood-thinners like warfarin or aspirin can lead to an increased risk of bleeding.

Laxed Regulation on Herbal Medicine

Unlike pharmaceuticals, herbal medicine does not have strict inspections for safety or efficacy. The herbal supplements we carry at SOHMA are hand-picked and held to the highest standards of quality and reliability. With the increased use of herbal medicine and supplements, it’s unfortunate that there is a lack of regulation for herbal medicine. Many companies out there are just in it to make a quick buck and aim to take advantage of less fortunate people. Lack of dosage instructions for claimed effects may not be property stated and unknown growing and processing conditions can result in contaminated or diluted products. This makes it difficult for consumers to reliably purchase high quality products. Herbalists can help filter out much of the unwanted herbal medicine on the market.

Although herbal remedies are natural, you should also talk to your primary care provider to let them know you’re looking to treat your conditions with herbal medicine. Understand that herbal medicine is used to attempt to treat the root cause of your condition and typically will work slower compared to conventional pharmaceuticals.

How Often Can You Get IV Therapy?

August 25, 2022 by Dr. Daniel Hoover

IV Therapy is a healthy treatment to help with many conditions.

Did you know IV can be used as a therapy?

At some point you may have seen an IV drip in a medical drama or at your local hospital.

At SOHMA Integrative Medicine of Long Beach CA we offer two forms of IV therapy. We offer the Myer’s cocktail and Ozone therapy. Both of these therapies have a variety of benefits which we’ll go over today. As well as answer the question of how often you can get IV therapy?

What is Myer’s Cocktail

Let’s begin with the Myer’s cocktail. Myer’s cocktail is an IV therapy with a crafted blend of nutrients in a saline solution. This includes Vitamin B complex, Vitamin C, Calcium and Magnesium.

As our bodies age, it begins to absorb nutrients differently. Making it necessary to supplement our diets with vitamins and minerals. We need this to manage our energy levels and keep our immune system healthy. Although you can take supplements orally, the digestive system is inefficient at absorbing all the nutrients you take. IV therapy allows us to bypass the digestive system which can otherwise destroy some of the nutrients you’re attempting to supplement.

This leads the body to absorb the nutrients in the Myer’s cocktail directly into the bloodstream. Allowing the body to make use of them at a higher concentration and much faster than if consumed orally. Some of the benefits of the Myer’s cocktail include:

  • Boost to the immune system
  • Boost of energy
  • Rehydration
  • Detoxification

Myer’s cocktail has also been used to help treat some conditions like:

  • Asthma
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Migraines
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Depression
  • Anxiety

What is Ozone Therapy?

Ozone is most commonly known for being found in the earth’s atmosphere creating a layer that protects us from ultraviolet rays from the sun. However ozone can be used therapeutically here on the surface as well. Ozone is known to have anti-inflammatory properties, and also acts as a disinfectant. Ozone can help prevent viral replication in the and may kill bacteria in the body.

Our immune system is the first line of defense our body has to prevent infections. But as we age our natural immune system also begins to decline. After a short 30 minute session of Ozone therapy the immune system becomes stimulated and aids healing. Ozone’s anti-inflammatory helps the body focus on fighting off pathogens. This can improve your blood circulation and may cleanse your arteries from potential viral and bacterial infection by oxidizing the toxins.

Ozone therapy can also help manage symptoms from”

  • Arthritis
  • Joint pain
  • Respiratory problems
  • Allergies
  • Skin conditions
  • Chronic fatigue

And other conditions, if you have any questions about how helpful Ozone therapy can be, feel free to ask the helpful staff at SOHMA about the benefits of IV therapy.

How Often can I get IV therapy?

Like many complicated questions, it varies from person to person.

For Myer’s cocktail most people can have this IV therapy about once or twice per week. Many patients see a difference after just the first session. Some patients notice a notable improvement of their conditions after about 4 weeks. Afterwards you should be able to tell if the IV therapy is showing the desired results.

For Ozone therapy once again it depends on the condition you are trying to treat. Oftentimes you may require therapy three or four sessions per week. Just like any other treatment, it takes time to see long term benefits.

When administered by a professional, adverse side effects from Myer’s cocktail IV therapy and Ozone therapy are extremely rare. Though you should make sure to let the administrator of the IV therapy know if you have any allergies or are taking any medication so that you can minimize any risk factors.

Does Myer’s Cocktail Help the Skin?

August 25, 2022 by Dr. Daniel Hoover

Myer’s Cocktail IV Therapy is proven to have many benefits including skin care.

Myer’s Cocktails For Skin Health

Myer’s cocktail IV therapy has been shown to help in many situations. Originally developed as a  micronutrient therapy by Dr. Myer’s in 1984 to help with chronic conditions like fatigue, asthma, migraines and more. The Myer’s cocktail has shown to help with many different conditions and may have benefits as a therapy and treatment. In recent times many athletic people have used IV therapy to keep hydrated and healthy.

Myer’s cocktail has been shown to help with a variety of ailments, as well as helping the body stay healthy and hydrated. Some of the ailments Myer’s cocktail treats include:

  • Migraines
  • Upper respiratory conditions’
  • Detoxification
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Acute muscle spasms

Myer’s cocktail has additional benefits for both physical health and mental health. This includes the aforementioned hydration as well as:

  • Detoxification
  • Boost energy
  • Immune system support
  • Improved cardiovascular health
  • Improved nerve health
  • Promotes relaxation
  • Reduces anxiety and stress
  • Helps with hangovers

However, the Myer’s cocktail has some cosmetic benefits as well. Today we’re going to break down how some of the ingredients in the Myer’s cocktail can also help maintain and improve your skin condition.

What’s In Myer’s Cocktail?

Before we understand why Myer’s cocktail is good for your skin, we should first understand what’s in Myer’s cocktail.

At SOHMA Integrative Medicine of Long Beach CA the Myer’s cocktail we offer is a perfectly crafted blend of vitamins and minerals suspended in a saline solution. The blend includes Vitamin B complex, Vitamin C, Calcium and Magnesium. These nutrients need to be balanced within the body for it to properly function. For some people keeping this balance is difficult, that’s where the Myer’s cocktail comes in. An easy way for the body to absorb the needed nutrients to help people get out of pain and into balance, and back to play.

How Does the Myer’s Cocktail Work?

The Myer’s cocktail is an IV therapy, yes the same kind of IV used in the medical field is used therapeutically with the Myer’s cocktail.

What  makes IV therapy better than taking more vitamin supplements?

That is a fair question, IV therapy foregoes the digestive system. When you consume supplements only a small portion of the vitamins make it to the bloodstream. The digestive system tends to destroy much of what is consumed orally meaning you don’t receive as concentrated a dose as you would like.

The Myer’s cocktail IV therapy goes directly into the bloodstream allowing your body to absorb the nutrients and fluids faster, and since we’re bypassing the digestive system your body receives a more concentrated dose of the nutrients.

Myer’s Cocktail and Your Skin

Vitamin C is normally found in high levels in the skin. As a key ingredient in Myers’ cocktail Vitamin C is used by the body to help the skin improve wrinkles of the face and neck as well as improve your overall skin texture and appearance. Vitamin C is well-known as a skincare ingredient which can protect the skin from damage caused by the sun.

The accumulation of toxins that we absorb as we live and age can affect our skin cells. Myer’s cocktail helps to detoxify some of those toxins which allows the body to keep absorbing nutrients properly. Because of how fast the body can make use of the nutrients in the Myer’s cocktail, toxins are removed from the body leaving rejuvenated skin.

What are the Benefits of Myer’s Cocktail?

August 22, 2022 by Dr. Daniel Hoover

Myer’s cocktail is an IV Therapy that has benefits beyond rehydration.

Before we get into the benefits of Myer’s cocktail first we need to understand what’s in it and why it’s beneficial for your health.

Myer’s cocktail is a type of IV therapy we offer at SOHMA Integrated Medicine in Long Beach CA. Yes, the same kind of IV drip that is used in medicine and hospitals can be used as therapy. Myer’s cocktail is a perfectly crafted blend of nutrients and vitamins including Vitamin C, B Complex, Magnesium and Calcium suspended in a saline solution delivered through an IV drip directly to your bloodstream.

Detoxification and Hydration

Myer’s cocktail is used for many reasons, one of which is rehydration and detoxification. Since you are receiving the Myer’s cocktail through an IV drip, your body absorbs the fluids more efficiently than if you were to drink some water.

With such a concentrated amount of fluids entering the body it helps you to detoxify from accumulated toxins that may be in your system from your day to day life. Whether its from poor habits or simply because you live in a large metropolitan city and have to deal with the pollution and chemicals that come with it, a Myer’s cocktail can help.

Often you see people rehydrating with Myer’s cocktail after difficult days exercising or working. Though it’s not exclusively used for these reasons.

Boosts Energy Levels

It would be great if a balanced and healthy lifestyle was possible for everyone however, we understand that not everyone is able to. Myer’s cocktail can help with your lack of energy with the vitamin B complex which can give you the boost you need. There is no need to reach out for an energy drink filled with chemicals, sugars and caffeine. Myer’s cocktail can give you that boost you need to get through your week naturally without filling your body with unnecessary junk like energy drinks that only give you an artificial boost of energy before your body crashes.

Boosts Immune System

Myer’s cocktail contains Vitamin C which is well known for helping your body’s immune system. Vitamin C helps prevent and fight common viral infections like the cold. Supplementing your meals or drinks with Vitamin C can help but consuming too many foods with Vitamin C can irritate the stomach. With Myer’s cocktail IV therapy you bypass the digestive system altogether which can destroy Vitamin C before you can absorb it. The IV drip lets your body absorb the Vitamin C faster, and at a higher concentration.

Lack of Vitamin C can lead to you feeling weak, tired and irritable. It can cause you to have dry skin which makes it difficult to heal wounds. In some cases Vitamin C deficiency can cause joint pain and swelling which can lead to arthritis.

Helps with Migraines

Migraine pains can be incredibly debilitating, often not even letting you sit in a well lit room. Once again Myer’s cocktail can help, the blend of nutrients can work together to reduce the pain and symptoms caused by migraines. The anti-inflammatory properties of Vitamin C can help relieve some of the tension built up in your neck muscles and head. Vitamin B complex has been shown to reduce the duration and intensity of migraines. When balanced correctly it may even reduce the frequency of migraines.

Regularly using Myer’s cocktail the magnesium and calcium can work together to also prevent future migraines. Lower levels of magnesium can result in constricted blood vessels in the brain which can be one of the triggers for migraines. A balanced intake of calcium has been linked with reducing the frequency of migraines as well due to calcium playing an important role in regulating muscle functions like relaxation and contractions.
